BMS World Mission officially launched its new website on Tuesday 13 November. Though the website address remains the same
www.bmsworldmission.org the look and feel of the site is entirely new. This article will give you a brief introduction to how you can navigate your way through all of its innovative features.
Channels
The biggest change with the new site is the introduction of web channels, which are distinct parts of the overall site dedicated to a certain audience.
There are five channels that you can access on the left-hand side of the new BMS homepage: ministers, BMS Reps, mission opportunities, campaigns and 24:7 Partners.
Clicking on one of these channels will take you to that channel's homepage, where you can then navigate through all its content which has been specifically selected for that audience.
Each channel will be managed by a BMS staff member, who will populate their channel with the content their readers prefer. BMS hopes that this will encourage feedback from visitors to the site - giving you the ability to have a direct say in what appears in each channel. This means that the channels will, more and more, reflect the views and opinions of BMS' supporters.
BMS Director of Communications Mark Craig says, "For us, the most important thing in the new site is the opportunity for supporters to be involved in shaping the content. We really do want the site to be a two-way exchange between BMS and our friends and partners in churches throughout the UK and elsewhere in the world."
Within each channel you can find an e-mail contact for the channel manager -please use that to tell us what you think and what you'd like to see in the channel in the future.
BMS excitement
With an ever-increasing reliance on the internet, BMS felt that it was time to update its four-year-old site with one that would be more suitable for today's web savvy supporters.
BMS webmaster Mike Hargreaves, who has played a vital role in the construction of the new site, says, "I hope that this new site comes across as a more user-friendly and pleasing experience that builds on the strengths of the previous site."
In addition to giving visitors to the new website a wider variety of content and photos, we hope that it will keep us better connected to the people who visit the site. Because without your support (whether prayerfully or financially) none of what's on this new site would exist.
