BMS World Mission

World Aids Day: the front line

BMS World Mission partners in D R Congo have taken part in a march to raise awareness for World Aids Day tomorrow (1 December 2007).

VORSI-Congo, an organisation that works to treat those living with HIV as well as educate communities about treatments and prevention measures and the danger of stigmatising sufferers, was one of several organisations that took part in the march.

The march took place on Friday and took demonstrators to both the Prime Minister’s residence and the parliament buildings in Kinshasa. About 2,000 braved the blazing sun to promote the message that Aids is just another disease and people living with it can access treatment.

The marchers were also calling for free and universal access to Aids treatment drugs, primarily anti-retrovirals.

As awareness of issues surrounding HIV and Aids are raised on World Aids Day, please take time to remember the plight of those living in circumstances where there is little or no access to treatment, and to pray for those who are working to change that situation. BMS supports VORSI-Congo and many organisations doing similar work both financially and with expertise and personnel.
