Alistair Brown to leave BMS

10/03/2008

The General Director of BMS World Mission, Rev Dr Alistair Brown, has announced his decision to leave BMS in the summer of 2008.

He will take up the position of President of Northern Baptist Theological Seminary in Chicago in the USA.

In an announcement to staff and trustees of BMS, Dr Brown said that it was with mixed emotions that he had to give colleagues the news.

Alistair Brown, General Director since 1996

"It has been one of the greatest privileges of my life to work for BMS," he said, "But nothing in this world is forever and I believe God has called me to something new, and for that reason, and only that reason, I'm willing to leave."

Northern Seminary described the decision by their Board of Trustees to elect Dr Brown as having been "characterised by a profound sense of God's continued leading".

Alistair Brown joined BMS in 1996 from a background in journalism and a subsequent calling to pastoral ministry. Since then he has led the organisation through a number of significant changes and has become a familiar figure in UK Baptist life.

BMS is grateful for the immense contribution Alistair has made to the organisation and its ministry and wishes him and his wife, Alison, every blessing in the new work to which God has called them.
