Action Teams 2008/09

32 action team members aged 18 – 22 are approaching midway through their training period prior to serving overseas.   Currently in their second week of training, at an outdoor activity centre in Wales, those on the Action Team year are beginning to get to know more about themselves, their faith, their team and their locations.

This year will be the first to Rouen, France and Guayaquil, Ecuador.    In Rouen they’ll be working alongside long-term workers Katie and Reuben Martin.  In Ecuador they’ll be the first Action Team at the new Mission Centre run by long-term church planters Pete and Vicki Butchers who work in the Vergeles favela (slum) in Guayaquil.  Rachel Third, of the Ecuador team says:  “I feel really excited about going and can't wait, but I know I need more training and practise with the language to feel more prepared!”

During the last two weeks of training, at BMS’ International Mission Centre, the teams will receive further briefing on team work, mission theology and culture.  In addition, they’ll be spending a long weekend at a training church, taking services and going into schools to take lessons.

Do pray for each of the teams; Brazil São Paulo 1 & 2, France, Delhi, Ecuador, Kolkata, Nepal and Uganda – and follow their stories via their journals.

If you could see yourself serving overseas, then consider it further.  From long-term individuals, couples and families, to gap year students – the opportunities to serve God overseas through BMS is there for you.  Contact opportunities@bmsworldmission.org or phone 01235 517653 for more details.
