BMS World Mission

Gillian Davies
Gillian's association with BMS World Mission goes back to an early age when she regularly received the Wonderlands magazine in Sunday school. She was brought up in a Welsh Baptist church in London whose missionary links were with BMS. As a career she took up nursing and trained in London and Edinburgh. She then went to work in Canada for just over a year before returning to settle in Cardiff.

In 1973 Gillian married Dewi, a Welsh Baptist minister and came to settle in Llanelli where she still lives. She served with her husband in the church and, as the only car driver, happily acted as chauffeur as the need arose.

Since moving to Llanelli, she has been involved in the women's Zenana movement in Wales, having served as President in 1991.

Gillian is also national treasurer of the Baptist Sisterhood movement in Wales - 'Mudiad chwiorydd Bedyddwyr Cymru'. She is a trustee of Glyn Nest, one of its two residential homes.

For 18 years she was one of the representatives on BMS General Committee for the Carmarthenshire and Cardiganshire association and served on various sub-committees. Gillian represents BMS with Delyth Wyn Davies (BMS Co-ordinator for Wales) on the Joint Consultative Committee for Baptists in Wales, which gives them an opportunity to share ideas and information.

Gillian is now in her fourth year as trustee with BMS and feels very privileged to serve in this way.
