Transforming lives on four continents

Duffett would be proud...

Posted by Peru Action Team 2011-12 at 20:53 on 29th February 2012

This week we had the opportunity to take the young people out onto the streets of Cusco Chris Duffet style. During training at IMC we met an evangelist called Chris Duffet who taught us how to evangelise different settings and took us into Birmingham to practice some creative techniques. We were all really inspired by what he taught us and we had the pleasure of passing this knowledge on to the young people of Cusco. We were really encouraged to see how the young people took to it and got involved straightaway even the quieter ones had a new found confidence!

Rob and Amy at the end of the night.

They gave out free sweets that we said were a symbol to show God’s love. They also did a survey which asked the following questions:

1.

Do you know the church El Puente?

2.

Do you go to Church? If so, which type?

3.

Who is Jesus to you? Prophet, never existed, Son of God, good man, other.

4.

How do you feel about the divide between Catholics and Evangelicals?

5.

What is your definition of a Christian?

The survey gave a great insight into the genuine views that people have of religion. Nearly everyone said that Jesus was the Son of God but there were a variety of views on what makes someone a Christian. It was a great way to start conversations and got the Church out into the public domain.

Eating a classic snack of rice pudding and chicha sauce after the nights evangalism!

At Church on Sunday we have the exciting kids’ drama production and have been rehearsing for it. We are really excited to show the Church one aspect of the month as the crafts were designed to contribute to the drama. The parts have been cast, we have found our Noah and the music is ready to help tell this wonderful story of hope.

Our favourite Colombian has returned to Cusco! We first met Claudia when we arrived in the city and she has now returned after spending time with family and friends in Colombia. She feels a strong calling to be in Cusco and to work alongside El Puente in its youth and children’s ministries. In our final month we will be helping as she takes over the kids and youth groups and follow her as she tries to bring children and young people to Christ. She never saw herself as a missionary, we never saw ourselves as missionaries but what is a missionary anyway?
