Katrina and Martin Butterworth have been in Nepal for the last 14 years and Katrina has now turned their intimate knowledge of Nepal into a novel.
‘Red Dawn Rising’ follows the struggles of Sano Maya and Santosh as they seek to live in a world ravaged by Maoist soldiers. We follow the family as they strive to live with dignity when battling the drunken husband of a close friend, minimal health care, little infrastructure and a loss of law and order.
There is no sickly sweet happy ending. Life has changed in Nepal since the heady days of the Maoists coming to power in April 2008 but for rural people the battles remain the same.
This book describes life ‘in the raw’ faithfully and with great compassion.
Copies of ‘Red Dawn Rising’ can be obtained from Stan Crees (stanc@blueyonder.co.uk) for £6.00.
