The beginning of Christmas in Peru...

December is now here with its scorching sun! However, rainy season is fast approaching...
So, the Church is currently planning for Christmas. There are many ideas for blessing the community around the Church such as carolling and giving out donated clothes. We will also be visiting Huambatio to distribute hot chocolate and clothes to the people in the village. We can't wait to see both the community and Huambatio blessed and loved by God's Church.
Last week Amy and Jess sorted through mountains of clothes boxes that had been sent from the UK and Peru. A few days later they had the joy of handing out some warm jumpers at a Quechua women’s group in a friend’s Church. The 10 women that received the clothes have no money to buy their own and were so appreciative of the small gift. This is a great example of how the global Church can be Christ’s hands and feet in the world as even though they couldn’t say two words in the Quechua language there was still a connection making it more personal and more about God.

The ladies loved their new jumpers!

We began youth choir rehearsals this week and are all learning our favourite carols in Spanish as well as the very catchy Feliz Navidad (Happy Christmas)! We hope to perform these songs with the young people both in Church and at the regional hospital.
We are also getting on with painting the new church this week. We hope to have finished the crèche and children’s room murals by the end of the week. We are glad to be able to do something practically for the Church as they are settling into the new building and location. Check out the photos next week!
In other news, on Tuesday, we are all excited to be heading off to see Machu Picchu! Pictures to follow!
Ciao for now!
