Undefeated

Thank you for signing up to the Undefeated campaign. We will be taking your name with thousands of others to present to the Secretary of State for International Development, asking three things of our government:

 

To prioritise the promotion of inclusion policies for disabled people on all foreign aid projects

To ensure disability is incorporated into the UN’s post-2015 Millennium Development Goals (MDG agenda)

To strengthen encouragement for countries to practisethe UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD)

 

We thought you might like an update on some of the highlights achieved by Undefeated, from Paralympians’ performances to inspiring legacies for the future.

 

Undefeated atheletes - how did they do?

In 2011, five athletes were filmed for the Undefeated DVD, urging churches to recognise Paralympic sport as celebratory, challenging and inclusive. Read more here.

 

 

 

The Dream came true

BMS was instrumental in helping the first-ever Paralympic team from Haiti to compete at London 2012. The team consisted of three athletes: Leon Gaysli, Josue Cajuste and Nephtalie Jean Louis. Read more here.

 

 

 

Town churches unite to show Undefeated

On the middle Sunday of the Paralympics, the small Oxfordshire market town of Wantage was home to one of the most inspiring Undefeated events we’ve heard

Undefeated disability justice campaign launched in Parliament

Gary Streeter MP, Chair of Christians in Parliament, called 

the feature video of the Undefeated resource “fantastic” and said it was “exactly the kind of thing that the Church needs to be involved in.” Read more here.

 

 

 

Paralympics shown on TV for the first time in Haiti

Three hours of Paralympic highlights were shown in Haiti in the evenings on TV Nationale d’Haiti (TNH) and then repeated the following mornings. TNH has a peak broadcast audience of five million people.

A message of congratulations for the broadcasts was given to TNH from the First Lady of Haiti, Sophia Martelly. Gerald Oriol, Jr. the Secretary of State for the Integration of Persons with Disability in Haiti, stated he was excited and delighted to be able to follow Haiti’s participation in the Paralympics in this way.

 

 

 

Paralympian Leon Gaysli opens a sports centre in Haiti

BMS partner Haiti Hospital Appeal opened an all-ability sports centre in Cap Haitien to serve the community of able and disabled athletes in northern Haiti.

 

 

The Undefeated resource

 

Originally produced to coincide with the 2012 Paralympics, Undefeated contains material suitable for a one-hour church service focusing on disability at any time. Previously for sale at £6.00, it is now available free of charge and contains three inspiring DVDs of Paralympians,a sermon outline, all age interactive material, theology of disability and much more.

The Undefeated campaign aims to persuade the UK government to benefit the lives of disabled people in developing countries by becoming more inclusive in their foreign aid strategy.
